Facial Rejuvenation - do it with a dentist!

More and more of our patients have been asking us about how dento-facial aesthetics can improve the appearance of, not only, their smile, but also their overall appearance. Gone are the days when patients only go to the dentist to have their teeth and gums treated. It is now quite routine for patients to want to talk to their dentists about treatments for gummy smiles, misaligned or lop-sided smiles, inter-dental dark triangles, lip enhancements, dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments. These sorts of treatments are also commonly referred to as facial rejuvenation.

As most facial rejuvenation treatments involve aesthetic injectables there is so safer environment in which to receive these treatments than your dentist's treatment rooms. There are a number of reasons why this is the case:

Firstly, no other medical practitioner, and certainly not your average beautician, has such a comprehensive understanding of the critical facial structures such as nerves, muscles, veins and arteries, skin, etc.

Secondly, dental practitioners have the most experience in performing facial injections as a routine part of their treatment protocols on a daily basis. This combination of a detailed understanding of facial anatomy and experience in facial injections make dentists one of the safest and most effective practitioners of facial rejuvenation treatments available.

The third reason your dentist is the best person to perform facial rejuvenation procedures is that a dental practice is required to adhere to the highest standards of hygiene and sterilisation to minimise the risks of cross-infection. By being treated by your dentist you will have the confidence that you are in safest environment for your health. For more information on how we prepare our treatment rooms for our patients have a look at our blog "It's not just teeth that we clean!".

Lastly, dentists have been using the same active ingredient (Botulinum Toxin Type A) that is used in facial rejuvenation treatments for alleviating dental conditions such as grinding (bruxism) and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) for many years, and so have an excellent understanding of its therapeutic applications.

Trained through the Australasian Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics Dr Cheryl Liew BDS & Dr Aoibheann O'Brein BDS are fully qualified in the use of facial injectables and have both successfully treated patients for the reduction of frown lines, forehead lines, crows feet, naso-labial folds, inter-dental dark triangles, rectifying gummy and lop-side smiles, as well as treating patients suffering from bruxism and TMD.

If you have been considering any facial rejuvenation treatments but have been concerned about whether the appropriate sterilisation standards are being adhered to or whether the practitioner has the appropriate training, then there is no safer environment than your dentist's treatment rooms in which to be treated.
